 Monalisa got her start among celebrity designers and their clientele. She trained in Beverly Hills at a trendy salon on Rodeo Drive called “The Establishment” in 1978. Trained as a colorist for some of the high-powered stylists. Monalisa had the opportunity to work directly with color innovator of all time, Sam Lapin, the developer of Lapinol Hair Color. Assisted with the famous Charles Ross, who then made Marilyn Monroe & Shelly Winter’s hair blonde.

The first 12 years of Monalisa’s career was focused in the science of color, and included stage work for such lines as Framesi, Goldwell, Wella and Matrix, to name a few.
In 1989, Monalisa searched for her own natural color lines in Indonesia, realizing that natural powder dyes would be at the forefront of a new concept in natural hair color. However, difficult to integrate into the FDA, most coming from Germany at the time. She returned to the states and began to create treatments from chamomile, cayenne & Coffee mixed with coconut oils.

Moving in another direction, Monalisa continued her journey and education by enrolling in the Vidal Sassoon Academy and was honored to work with Vidal Sasson himself. Trained also in cutting techniques of Jingles institute of London, Tony & Guy and and the late Paul Mitchell.
New York, Beverly Hills & London, Monalisa has colored the locks of many celebrities and the rich and famous. She continued her travels in Asia living in Thailand and India where she cultivated her knowledge of Ayurveda Therapy.

“It fascinates me,” Monalisa claims, as she learned how “Dosha” could be applied to hair, body & skin. There came the concept to Trademark her own lines, Dosha, Pita Vata & Kapha. She thanks Horst Aveda for much of the knowledge and inspiration. Monalisa has built, consulted and developed several salons and worked with many in the expertise of branding concepts for products and salons. Monalisa started her salons in Santa Barbara, California and relocated to Colorado in the late 1990’s. You can now find her back in Santa Barbara or traveling to find innovative ideas in marketing and branding. You can locate her work and publications in many top magazines and photo shoots.
